The Advancing Hispanic Excellence Technology, Engineering, Math and Science (AHETEMS) Foundation administers all educational programs for The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE). The SHPE is the largest and premier Hispanic science and engineering organization in the United States committed to advancing the education, employment and economic and social welfare of Hispanic Scientists and Engineers and increasing the number of Hispanics entering the field of engineering and science.
Director of Programs
As the Director of Programs, you will be responsible for developing the undergraduate and graduate outreach, recruitment and retention programs, developing assessment and evaluation rubrics for the Advancing Careers in Engineering Program pre-college programs. You will also assist in the development of marketing, selection and service of the AHETEMS Scholarship Program, assist SHPE in proposal and grant writing and conduct research and publish reports and articles relevant to Hispanics in science and technology. Your primary function in this position is to provide academic support to Hispanic pre-college, college and graduate students in science and engineering.
Responsibilities:
· Develop STEM educational programs for the Hispanic community
· Direct the annual educational programs at the SHPE conference
· Develop and maintain a viable assessment structure of the ACE Program, scholarship/internship programs and all educational programs
· Present SHPE’s educational endeavors at national conferences and seminars
· Coordinate of the annual Pre-college Program at the SHPE conference
· Assist SHPE with preparation of funding proposals and grant proposals
· Develop and maintain database of SHPE program participants
· Serve as a mentor to SHPE scholarship and internship students
· Develop and maintain mechanisms to communicate with prospective college students and prospective and current graduate students about program activities and resources, including student resource database, mailing lists, email/listserv and updating content for the program web page
· Assist pre-college, undergraduate and graduate students with academic issues and provide referrals to appropriate university or community resources
· Monitor budget for program activities, prepare regular reports on program activities and communicate with Program Manager and AHETEMS Chair on a regular basis to provide updates on activities
· Assist in acquiring new funding opportunities for program activities
· Recruit a diverse student population into the various SHPE scholarship and internship-partnership programs
· Submit grant performance reports, update and summary documents to funding sources
· Provide AHETEMS chair information and briefings to present to SHPE National Board
Job Requirements:
Qualifications:
· Master’s degree in Higher Education, Education Policy, Science Policy, Sociology or Engineering Education and Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology Mathematics or Engineering
· 3+ years experience in the recruitment or retention of pre-college, college and graduate students
· 3+ years experience in higher education administration
· Extensive, critical, research-based knowledge and research agenda of Hispanic STEM and educational issues
· Excellent analytical skills and knowledge of statistical methods
· Strong experience managing Federal contracts
· Ability to work collaboratively with staff, educational and corporate partners; prioritize activities; work with high degree of autonomy and meet multiple deadlines
· Intricate knowledge of Access, Excel and SPSS
· High competency in program assessment
· Excellent knowledge of research methods and assessment rubrics
· Critical research writing skills, technical writing and oral presentation skills
· Excellent rapport with students in recruitment and retention activities
· Adequate grant writing and proposal writing skills
· Willing and capable of frequent travel
· Some working knowledge of budget structures
· Ability to prioritize activities and willing to work collaboratively and with a high degree of autonomy and meet deadlines
· Great attention to detail
· Experience and ability to work well in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment and help direct several activities at once
· Desire and ability to serve a diverse multicultural student
· Familiarity with Hispanic education issues
· Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
